Programs at Star Academy (Ages 4 Years 9 Months+)
TK readiness, after school care, and enrichment for ages 4 years 9 months and older. Operates under applicable California education program requirements for school-age/TK programs.
TK & Kindergarten Readiness
Star Academy's TK (transitional kindergarten) program serves children who turn 4 years 9 months by the start of the school year. Our transitional kindergarten bridges preschool and kindergarten with a structured curriculum focused on early literacy, foundational math, and social-emotional development. California's TK expansion has created more options for families—Star Academy offers an academic-focused TK experience that prepares children for kindergarten and beyond.
Children build letter recognition, phonics, number sense, and fine motor skills in a small-group setting. Our kindergarten readiness curriculum aligns with California standards and prepares children for a smooth transition into elementary school. The TK program runs during the school year and is designed for children who need an extra year before kindergarten or who benefit from a structured, academic-focused environment. We focus on following routines, working in groups, and developing the social skills that kindergarten requires.
We combine play-based learning with structured academics. Staff use evidence-based tools including IXL to support individualized learning. Each child receives attention tailored to their level—whether they are just beginning to recognize letters or are ready for early reading. Families in Sacramento, Carmichael, and Arden-Arcade choose Star Academy for TK because of our small class sizes, caring staff, and focus on school readiness. Located at 4648 Whitney Ave in 95821, we are convenient for families throughout the area.
After School Care
Our before and after school program opens at 6:30 AM and runs until 6:00 PM. We provide school pickup from participating schools—our vans bring students to Star Academy for supervised care. The afternoon includes a dedicated homework block with staff support, IXL curriculum, and tutoring. Working parents rely on us for consistent, reliable care that extends beyond the school day.
After homework, students engage in enrichment: STEM activities, coding, 3D printing, or creative arts. Nutritious snacks are provided. The structured schedule—arrival and snack, homework, enrichment, free play—gives children predictability and support. We serve grades K–8 with age-appropriate activities. First and second graders receive extra support with reading and math; older students work on more advanced projects and independent study skills.
Families appreciate our transportation from participating schools in the San Juan Unified School District and surrounding areas. Our organized pickup system ensures each child is accounted for from dismissal through arrival at Star Academy. Contact us at (916) 234-3632 to inquire about pickup from your child's school. We serve Whitney Ave, 95821, Carmichael, and Arden-Arcade.

Star Academy's summer program combines fun with learning. We offer full-day care during school breaks with field trips, enrichment activities, and outdoor play. The summer curriculum includes academic reinforcement to prevent learning loss, plus STEM projects, creative arts, and group activities. Children stay engaged and avoid the summer slide while enjoying a relaxed, camp-like atmosphere.
Our summer program runs Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. We incorporate hands-on STEM projects—coding, 3D printing, robotics—alongside creative arts, games, and outdoor time. Field trips to local attractions add variety. The program is designed for school-age children in grades K–8 who need full-day care during the break.

Enrollment Process
Enrollment begins with a tour of our facility. We recommend scheduling a visit to meet our staff, see our programs in action, and ask questions. Tours are available by appointment Monday through Friday. During your tour, you will see our classrooms, tech lab, and outdoor areas. You can discuss your child's needs, our transportation options, and program details.
After your tour, we provide enrollment paperwork and discuss availability for your preferred schedule. We require proof of age (child must be 4 years 9 months or older), immunization records, and emergency contact information. Once paperwork is complete and space is confirmed, your child can start. We work with families to find a schedule that fits—whether you need before school only, after school only, or both.
We do not offer infant or toddler care—our focus on school-age children allows age-appropriate enrichment and academic support. Star Academy operates under applicable California education program requirements for school-age/TK programs. All staff are background-checked and trained. We maintain small ratios to ensure each child receives attention and supervision.
